Job summary

GAP Group is seeking a proactive Hire Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of the Hire Desk within our busy Plant & Tool division. You will manage a team of Hire & Sales Coordinators and Drivers to deliver safe, efficient, and customer-focused service.

The role balances operational control with commercial focus, ensuring compliance, accurate administration, and strong sales performance across the depot.

Qualifications

• Proven experience managing a hire desk, transport operation, or similar customer facing team.
• Strong people management skills with the ability to coach and develop others.
• Commercial focus with experience driving revenue and add-on sales.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and perform under pressure.
• Strong communication skills with customers, staff, and stakeholders at all levels.
• Solid understanding of Health & Safety within an operational environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operation of the Hire Desk and Transport function.
• Allocate, prioritise, and oversee workloads for Hire & Sales Co ordinators and Drivers.
• Recruiting, motivating, coaching, and developing team members to achieve high performance.
• Driving add on sales performance through proactive promotion of consumables and accessories.
• Overseeing stock control of consumables and resale items to meet demand.
• Ensuring accurate processing of on hires, off hires, exchanges, and transport activity.
• Monitoring delivery and collection performance to meet customer timescales.
• Reviewing reports, customer queries, and administrative issues, taking corrective action where required.
• Taking hands‑on role during periods of holiday or absence where required.

The Role
