Job summary

Derbyshire County Council is recruiting a Derbyshire Highways Training Officer to deliver high-quality Street Works and Highways training across Derbyshire sites. You will develop engaging course content, assess learners, and ensure compliance with legislation while supporting audits and training records.

The role combines technical highways expertise with teaching responsibilities, offering a clear impact on operational capability and learner development within the Highways service.

Qualifications

• Experience in training and assessment.
• Experience in highways or engineering service environment.
• Occupational competence and sector specific expertise.
• Chapter 8 Traffic Management qualifications.
• CAT & Genny, experienced in how to work safely to avoid underground cables.
• Traffic Management Signage & Traffic Light Set Up.
• Experience in excavating roads or pavements, and surface reinstatement.
• Involvement in internal or external audit and regulatory inspection processes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality training in Street Works and Highways.
• Carry out training in collaboration with the Highways Training Compliance and Coordination Lead.
• Deputise for the Training Lead when required.
• Keep high-quality, accurate training records.
• Plan and prepare courses, teaching materials, and book plant hire as needed.
• Teach practical and theory Street Works and Highways sessions.
• Ensure training complies with current legislation and Derbyshire Highways aims.
