Job summary

Derbyshire County Council is seeking a motivated Highways Training Officer to join the Highways Training Centre. You will deliver professional Street Works and Highways training, develop engaging course content and support learners to achieve nationally recognised qualifications across Derbyshire sites.

You will keep training records up to date, contribute to audits, and plan courses with suitable teaching materials.

Qualifications

  • Experience in training and assessment.
  • Experience of working within a highways or engineering service environment.
  • Chapter 8 Traffic Management qualifications.
  • CAT & Genny, aware of how to work safely to avoid underground cables.
  • Traffic Management Signage & Traffic Light Set Up.
  • Experience in excavating roads or pavements, and surface reinstatement.
  • Involvement in internal or external audit and regulatory inspection processes.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver professional, high‑quality Street Works and Highways training across Derbyshire sites.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, industry-aligned course content and support trainees to achieve nationally recognised qualifications.
  • Teach high‑quality practical and theory Street Works and Highways sessions.
  • Ensure training complies with current legislation and Derbyshire Highways service aims.
  • Assess practical and theoretical coursework and submit to accreditation bodies as required.
  • Maintain recording keeping and contribute to audits and training plans.
  • Plan and prepare courses, teaching materials and request plant hire as needed.
