Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a proactive Quantity Surveyor to join its established highways and civil engineering commercial team in the Bury St Edmunds area. You will own the commercial performance of major highway schemes, focusing on NEC contracts, cost control, forecasting and risk management across Area 6 & 8.

You will work with operational teams, subcontractors and clients to deliver projects on time and within budget, while developing your expertise and career in a growing highways business.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
• Experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
• Experience on framework contracts.
• Experience administering NEC Option C contracts.
• Background in civil engineering/highways/infrastructure projects.
• Strong commercial awareness: cost control, forecasting and risk management.
• Experience managing subcontractor accounts and commercial reporting.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and commercial systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage financial and contractual performance of highways/civil projects from cost planning to final account.
• Carry out monthly cost & value reconciliations, monitor performance and forecast.
• Prepare and submit quotations and compensation events.
• Price highway maintenance and civil works; ensure commercial competitiveness.
• Maintain financial records; resolve commercial queries.
• Prepare and agree final accounts; ensure timely billing.
• Manage subcontractor accounts, issue orders and process payments.
• Identify and mitigate commercial/contractual risks; advise on claims and changes.
• Collaborate with operational teams to keep projects viable.
