Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial performance of highways and civil engineering projects in the Area 6 & 8 region. You will work with operational teams, subcontractors and clients to manage costs, risks and commercial outcomes.

The role requires NEC3/NEC4 contract experience, cost control expertise, and a strong background in highways or civil schemes, with a full UK driving licence and the ability to travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent.
• Experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts.
• Experience on highways/framework contracts.
• Experience administering NEC Option C contracts.
• Background with complex civil/highways projects.
• Strong cost control, forecasting and risk management skills.

Responsibilities

• Carry out monthly cost and value reconciliations and monitor project financial performance.
• Assess and submit quotations and compensation events.
• Price and submit quotations for highway maintenance and civil works.
• Ensure scheme costs are recorded accurately and resolve commercial queries.
• Prepare and submit final accounts, ensuring timely billing.
• Manage subcontractor accounts, issue orders, assess payment applications and payments.
• Identify financial and contractual risks early and support mitigation.
• Provide commercial advice on claims, overruns, variations and scope changes.
• Collaborate with operational teams to keep projects commercially sound and cost-effective.
• Liaise with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to maintain strong commercial relationships.
• Attend internal and external project and commercial meetings.
• Support procurement with accurate cost information and supplier relationships.
• Ensure contractual obligations are understood and managed throughout the project lifecycle.

Are you a Quantity Surveyor looking to take greater ownership of the commercial performance of highways and civil engineering projects?

My client is looking for a proactive Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team, supporting the successful delivery of highway maintenance and infrastructure schemes across Area 6 & 8.

You will be joining an established highways business where you will have the opportunity to work closely with operational teams, subcontractors, suppliers and clients while developing your experience across cost control, NEC contract administration, forecasting and commercial risk management.

What you will be doing

• Carrying out monthly cost and value reconciliations and monitoring project financial performance.
• Assessing and submitting quotations and compensation events.
• Pricing and submitting quotations for highway maintenance and civil engineering works.
• Ensuring scheme costs are accurately recorded and resolving any commercial queries.
• Preparing and submitting final accounts, ensuring billing is accurate and completed within required timescales.
• Managing subcontractor accounts, including issuing orders, assessing applications for payment and processing payments.
• Identifying financial and contractual risks at an early stage and supporting appropriate mitigation strategies.

• Supporting efficient procurement through accurate cost information and effective supplier relationships.
• Ensuring contractual obligations are understood and appropriately managed throughout the project lifecycle.

What you will need

• A Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience working with NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.
• Experience working on framework contracts.
• Previous experience administering NEC Option C contracts.
• A background managing complex or high-value civil engineering, drainage or highways projects.
• Strong commercial awareness and experience of cost control, forecasting and risk management.
• Good digital skills, particularly Microsoft Office.
• Experience working with subcontractors and managing commercial accounts.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisational and time management skills.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider project team.
• A full UK Driving Licence.
• Previous highways or National Highways experience would be particularly beneficial.
