Job summary

Cumberland Council is seeking a Highway Operative to perform essential highway maintenance tasks, including minor construction, patching, drainage works, and grounds maintenance, supporting Highway Team Leaders in inspections and repairs.

You will manage traffic controls, respond to emergency callouts, repair fencing, install traffic signs, and operate small plant and tools, contributing to safety and quality across the network.

Responsibilities

• Perform minor highway construction and patching tasks.
• Carry out reactive maintenance and drainage works.
• Contribute to grounds maintenance and support Highway Team Leaders in inspecting and repairing the highway network.
• Manage traffic, respond to emergency callouts, and assist in fencing repairs.
• Install traffic signs and operate small plant and tools.
