Job summary

Richmond and Wandsworth Councils is seeking a experienced Highway Supervisor to lead the Highways DSO Section, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant roadworks across the boroughs. You will oversee operatives, agency staff and contractors, manage daily operations, and support budgeting and performance reporting.

The role requires valid driving licence and NRSWA/Winter gritting supervisory qualifications, with responsibilities spanning day-to-day management, out-of-hours standby, and continuous

Qualifications

• Valid driving licence and supervisory qualifications (NRSWA/Winter gritting)
• Experience in managing and developing staff to achieve high productivity
• Knowledge of Highways reactive roadworks and health & safety laws

Responsibilities

• Provide effective supervision of operatives, agency staff and contractors on Highway works
• Manage day-to-day operations across borough road networks and out-of-hours maintenance
• Authorise expenditure, purchase orders and resource requirements within delegated limits
• Carry out daily site inspections to ensure safety, efficiency and standards
• Supervise winter gritting operations and out-of-hours activities
• Ensure compliance with NRSWA, LoPS and health & safety requirements
• Maintain communication with Members and support service delivery improvements
