Job summary

Ringway Jacobs is seeking a highway maintenance operative to provide a first-class service, perform high-standard maintenance to the highway network and ensure works align with council strategies and Essex Highways policies.

You will undertake pothole repairs, patching, drainage, kerbing, signs installation and other small civil works, with duties including soft estate maintenance and traffic management. The role involves out-of-hours winter maintenance on a rota.

Qualifications

• A current, valid driving licence is essential; LGV Class 2 entitlement highly desirable.
• New Roads and Streetworks or NHSS 12 training and qualifications would be highly beneficial.
• Experience in the use of handheld technology (PDAs, Smartphones, etc) would be advantageous but not essential.
• Local knowledge of the county would be beneficial.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with customers both internally and externally.
• Experience of working in the public eye or other customer-facing roles would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Pothole repair and carriageway defect reinstatements.
• Carriageway and footway patching and construction.
• Drainage works, including laying pipes, resetting ironwork and gully / access chamber construction.
• Kerbing works.
• Installation of road signs and other small civil works.
• Soft estate maintenance works (e.g. grass cutting, strimming, etc).
• Traffic Management operations.
• Participate in out-of-hours winter maintenance and emergency response activities on a rota basis, which may include unsociable hours, weekends and public holidays.
