Job summary

Ringway Jacobs is seeking an experienced Highways Ganger / Team Leader Operative to lead frontline highway maintenance activities and manage a small on-site team. You will plan, supervise, and execute maintenance programmes with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency while liaising with clients and the public.

The role requires strong leadership, site management, and a proactive safety mindset, with a full UK driving licence preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience in highways maintenance environments.
• Experience leading, supervising, or mentoring operational teams.
• Full UK driving licence (LGV Class 2 advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a small highways maintenance team on site.
• Plan, coordinate, and allocate daily work activities to ensure efficient delivery of maintenance programmes.
• Carry out highway maintenance tasks including pothole repairs, patching, drainage works, kerbing, footway repairs, and general highway improvements.
• Ensure all works are completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and industry standards.
• Conduct site inspections and brief teams on work activities, hazards and control measures.
• Monitor the quality of completed works and address defects promptly.
• Ensure plant, vehicles, materials, and equipment are used safely and effectively.
• Complete daily records, timesheets, inspections, and related documentation.
• Liaise professionally with the public, clients, and other stakeholders on site.
• Promote a positive safety culture and report incidents or near misses.
