Job summary

Amey in Preston Brook, Runcorn, is recruiting a Highways Maintenance Operative to join the Area 10 Strategic Highways team. You will help keep the strategic road network safe and operational.

Responsibilities include routine highway maintenance, installing temporary traffic management, winter services, and emergency response. The role runs 42 hours weekly with 12-hour shifts in a 4-on 4-off pattern, offering training, development, and a strong benefits package.

Qualifications

• Valid LGV Class C license.
• Driver CPC with 35 hours completed.
• CSCS card.
• Personal Highways Passport.
• Manual Handling certification.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Self-motivated and proactive.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Commitment to health, safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine and cyclic highway maintenance.
• Support minor civil engineering works and highway upkeep.
• Install and remove temporary traffic management systems.
• Undertake winter maintenance and emergency duties.
• Drive and operate vehicles and plant, complete daily checks.
• Record hours and defect reports.
• Capture time and resource use in allocations.
• Attend briefings and maintain safety standards.
• Communicate with colleagues, subcontractors, clients, emergency services and the public.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental requirements are met.
