Job summary

Amey Ltd in Rochdale/Milnrow is seeking a Permanent Highways Maintenance Operative to join the Milnrow Motorway Unit on the M62 Junction 21. The role covers routine and cyclic highway maintenance, installing temporary traffic management, and supporting winter and emergency operations.

You will work 42 hours per week on a 4-on, 4-off rotation, including days and nights, driving and operating plant, completing checks, and recording hours and paperwork to high safety standards.

Qualifications

• Hold an LGV Class C licence with relevant driving experience.
• Have 35 hours Driver CPC and appropriate CPC compliance.
• Completed Manual Handling training or equivalent.
• Demonstrate good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.
• Be self-motivated with the ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Maintain high technical and safety standards across highway maintenance.
• Attend project and work briefings as required.
• Drive and operate vehicles and plant requiring general and specialist skills.
• Carry out vehicle and plant checks, routine maintenance and cleaning.
• Deliver highway maintenance activities including routine and cyclic works.
• Install temporary traffic management as required.
• Support winter maintenance operations and emergency call-out readiness.
• Take responsibility for safety of self and others and comply with health and safety rules.
• Complete vehicle checks before shifts and record defects accurately.
• Record drivers' hours and log time and resource utilization.
• Maintain records and complete paperwork; communicate with colleagues and stakeholders.

What will the role offer?

Working at Amey puts you at the centre of an inspiring expert team. You will have the opportunity to work with our Area 10 Strategic Highways account, helping to maintain the strategic road network safely and effectively.

The standard hours of work are 42 hours per week on average, working 12-hour shifts across days and nights on a 4 on, 4 off rotation.

As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you will play an important role in delivering highway maintenance activities and installing temporary traffic management. You will undertake routine and cyclic maintenance, minor civils works and litter picking, alongside supporting winter maintenance and emergency call-out operations.

What you will be doing:

• Maintaining high technical and safety standards across highways maintenance activities.
• Attending project and work briefings as required.

• Carrying out vehicle and plant checks, routine maintenance and cleaning.
• Delivering a range of highway maintenance activities, including routine and cyclic maintenance, minor civils works and litter picking.
• Installing temporary traffic management as required.
• Supporting winter maintenance operations.
• Participating in emergency call-out and standby arrangements.
• Taking responsibility for your own safety and the safety of others within the team, ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety requirements and protecting members of the public.
• Completing vehicle checks before the start of each shift and accurately recording any defects.
• Accurately recording drivers' hours.
• Recording time and resource utilisation in line with the relevant operational allocation system.
• Maintaining accurate records and completing all necessary paperwork.
• Communicating and liaising effectively with Amey colleagues, subcontractors, emergency services, the police, clients, customers and members of the public.
