Job summary

Northumberland County Council seeks a full-time highways operative at Tyne Mills Depot, Hexham. You will lead or join a team delivering highway maintenance including paving, drainage and kerb work, while following plans and schedules to meet project requirements.

Ideal candidates will have a valid driving licence and experience in highways/construction, with the ability to plan resources and maintain accurate records. The role involves on-site work and adherence to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Valid Driving Licence required.
• Previous experience in Highways and Construction preferred.
• Level 2 or Equivalent Qualification.
• Ability to understand complex spoken and written instructions and read plans and schedules.
• Able to plan, organise and prioritise resources and staff.

Responsibilities

• Carry out modular and block paving works.
• Lay insitu concrete and reinforce with steel as required.
• Install and repair drainage pipes and systems; operate jetting plant.
• Set up and adjust formwork, shoring equipment and kerb and channel works.
• Handle and install iron work such as manholes, gullys and valve cases; fit bollards and undertake excavation work.
