Job summary

Northumberland County Council in Hexham is seeking a highways operative to deliver repairs and maintenance on the roads network. You will perform modular paving, laying kerbs, drainage work and other tasks, following plans and schedules while maintaining accurate work records.

The role requires practical experience in highways and construction, a valid driving licence, and the ability to plan and prioritise resource use and workload.

Qualifications

• Experience in highways and construction is required.
• Ability to understand and interpret plans and schedules.
• Good planning and record-keeping abilities.

Responsibilities

• Carry out highways repairs and maintenance tasks.
• Modular and block paving.
• Laying insitu concrete and reinforcing steel.
• Work with drainage installations and jetting equipment.
• Install and repair kerb and channels.
• Fit formwork, shoring and bollards; excavation work.
• Work with manholes, gullies and valve cases.
• Must hold a valid driving licence.
• Experience in highways/construction essential.
• Plan, organise and prioritise resources and staff.
• Interpret plans, drawings and schedules; keep accurate work records.

Job description

You will lead or be part of a team and will carry out highways repairs/maintenance tasks including;

• Modular and block paving
• Laying insitu concrete and associated steel reinforcement
• Associated iron work (i.e., manholes, gully's, valve cases),
• Laying kerb and channels
• Installing and repairing of all types of drainage pipes and systems and operate mechanical jetting plant
• Fitting formwork and shoring-up equipment
• Fitting metal concrete bollards and excavation work.
  Valid Driving Licence
• Previous experience in Highways and Construction
• Level 2 or Equivalent Qualification
• The ability to understand complex detailed spoken and written instructions, as well as plans drawings schedules and calculate work requirements and keep accurate work records.
• Able to plan, organise and prioritise resources and staff, including own time.
