Job summary

Reading Borough Council is seeking a proactive Highways Inspector to undertake routine and reactive inspections across the highway network, identify defects and monitor works to ensure safety and quality.

You will work with utility companies, contractors and internal teams to deliver a safe, well-maintained highway network for residents, businesses and visitors, while adhering to highway legislation and internal standards.

Qualifications

• Experience in highways maintenance, street works or similar operational environment.
• Willingness to work towards a recognised Highway Inspector qualification.
• Current UK driving licence and ability to travel across the network.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out highway safety inspections and defect investigations.
• Monitoring and inspecting street works and highway activities under relevant acts.
• Identifying safety issues and arranging remedial actions.
• Investigating highway-related accident claims and maintaining records.
• Managing licences including scaffolding and hoarding permits.
• Responding to enquiries from residents and other stakeholders.
