Job summary

Durham County Council’s Highways Services is seeking a Hub Assistant to support the HUB Manager and Highway Superintendents in delivering timely reporting for reactive and programmed operations. The post is career graded from Grade 5 to Grade 8, with progression based on qualification and performance.

The role requires working with minimal supervision at higher grades and may involve influencing process improvements within a busy local authority environment.

Qualifications

• Four GCSEs (A*-C) including English, Maths and a Science.
• Understanding of Highway Safety Inspection Manual and Inspection Rota.
• Knowledge of current defect hierarchy and intervention levels.
• NVQ 3 in Business Administration or equivalent (Grade 7/8).
• Experience in performance driven environments and busy customer-focused settings.
• Experience in highways or local authority environments; understanding Council Procedures.

Responsibilities

• Support the HUB Manager and Highway Superintendents in achieving timely reporting for reactive and programmed operational activities.
• Carry out tasks with increasing independence as grade progresses, escalating complex issues as needed.
• Contribute to process improvements and decision-making within highways maintenance.
