Job summary

Derbyshire County Council is seeking a proactive Team Manager to lead the Highways Development Implementation Team, delivering major developer-funded highway projects across Derbyshire. You will manage specialist officers, coordinate with developers, planning authorities and elected members, and ensure high standards in delivery and adoption of works.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in highways, civil engineering, transport development management or a related discipline.
• Proven leadership experience and the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
• Strong knowledge of highway infrastructure delivery and development-related agreements.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Sound technical judgement and a solutions-focused approach.
• Professional membership or chartered status, or a commitment to achieving it.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Highways Development Implementation Team and oversee delivery of major developer-funded highway infrastructure across Derbyshire.
• Manage a team of specialist officers and work with developers, contractors, planning authorities and elected members.
• Ensure new roads and junction improvements are delivered to a high standard and incorporated into Derbyshire's highway network.
• Guide complex highway agreements and infrastructure projects, negotiate with developers, and support strategic development opportunities.
• Oversee delivery and adoption of highway works, ensuring technical, legal and safety standards while focusing on customer service and partnership working.
