Job summary

Derbyshire County Council seeks a Senior Team Manager to lead the Highways Planning Liaison Team in Matlock. You will oversee the statutory highway consultee function and provide expert advice on planning applications from housing developments to major infrastructure across Derbyshire.

You will lead a specialist team, drive service performance, and promote highway safety and sustainable travel while engaging with planning authorities and developers across the county.

Qualifications

• Substantial experience in highway development management and transport planning.
• Leadership of a professional technical team.
• Strong knowledge of statutory planning system and highway legislation.
• Ability to interpret complex transport evidence and provide clear reports.
• Experience representing an organisation at planning committees or inquiries.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Highway Planning Liaison Team and oversee statutory highway consultee function.
• Provide expert planning advice on applications from housing to major infrastructure across Derbyshire.
• Manage team performance, resources, and continuous improvement.
• Represent the council in discussions with developers, planning authorities and elected members.
