Job summary

Derbyshire County Council seeks an experienced highways/transport professional to lead the Highways Development Implementation Team and oversee major developer-funded highway infrastructure across Derbyshire.

You will manage specialist officers, collaborating with developers, contractors, planning authorities and elected members to deliver roads, junction improvements and transport projects to a high standard within Derbyshire's network.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in highways, civil engineering, transport development management or a related discipline.
• Proven leadership experience and the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
• Strong knowledge of highway infrastructure delivery and development-related agreements.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Sound technical judgement and a solutions-focused approach.
• Professional membership or chartered status, or a commitment to achieving it.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Highways Development Implementation Team and oversee the delivery of major developer-funded highway infrastructure across Derbyshire.
• Manage a team of specialist officers; work with developers, contractors, planning authorities and elected members.
• Ensure roads, junction improvements and transport infrastructure are delivered to a high standard and incorporated into Derbyshire's highway network.
• Oversee delivery and adoption of highway works, ensuring schemes meet technical, legal and safety standards.
• Focus on customer service and strong partnership working to unlock strategic development opportunities.
