Job summary

Derbyshire County Council in Matlock is seeking an experienced highways or transport professional to lead our Highways Development Implementation Team and oversee the delivery of major developer-funded highway infrastructure across Derbyshire.

You will manage a specialist team, work with developers, planning authorities and elected members to deliver roads and transport projects to high standards, with a strong emphasis on customer service and partnership working, in a hybrid working arrangement.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in highways, civil engineering, transport development management or a related discipline.
• Proven leadership experience and the ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
• Strong knowledge of highway infrastructure delivery and development-related agreements.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills.
• Sound technical judgement and a solutions-focused approach.
• Professional membership or chartered status, or a commitment to achieving it.

Responsibilities

• Lead Highways Development Implementation Team to deliver developer-funded highway infrastructure.
• Oversee delivery and adoption of highway works meeting technical, legal and safety standards.
• Manage stakeholders including developers, planning authorities and elected members.
• Support strategic development opportunities and project delivery across Derbyshire.
