Job summary

Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council in West Yorkshire is seeking experienced highway engineers to join the Traffic Engineering Team. You will deliver highway safety improvements, sustainable transport schemes and public realm enhancements that benefit residents, businesses and visitors.

The role covers design schemes from concept to delivery, S278 checks, and providing technical advice while meeting statutory requirements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in highway design.
• A strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and local authority procedures.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Experience delivering engineering projects from concept through to implementation.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across disciplines and with external partners.

Responsibilities

• Preparing design solutions and develop innovative and practical highway safety and improvement schemes.
• Ensuring that the Council complies with legislative requirements,
• Undertake work programming, estimating, supervision and reporting on scheme progress
• Provide technical advice to elected Members, colleagues and members of the public.
• Work collaboratively with internal services, developers, consultants and external stakeholders.
• Mentor trainees and other staff.
