Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Highway Engineer in West Yorkshire for a 6-month contract, offering hybrid working. The role focuses on ownership of highway design, safety and project delivery across capital schemes.

You will deliver design solutions, manage small to medium schemes, and ensure health and safety throughout the design and construction phases. A driving licence and public-sector highway experience are required.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and delivery of capital highway schemes of varying size and complexity.

Highway Engineer

£40-£45 per hour
West Yorkshire
Hybrid Working
6-Month Contract

An experienced Highway Engineer is required to support an increased workload across a varied programme of capital highway schemes. You'll take ownership of highway design, safety and project delivery work, so the ability to hit the ground running with minimal supervision is essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the design and delivery of capital highway schemes of varying size and complexity.
• Provide highway engineering design, technical advice and project management.
• Develop highway safety schemes in accordance with DMRB and MMHW.
• Prepare practical design solutions against defined project briefs using AutoCAD.
• Project manage small to medium-sized highway schemes through delivery.
• Identify and manage health and safety risks throughout design and construction.
• Undertake highway safety and Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) work in response to public and stakeholder concerns.
• Liaise effectively with internal teams, external designers and other project stakeholders.

Essential Requirements

• Strong experience developing and delivering highway safety schemes.
• Good working knowledge of DMRB and MMHW.
• Proven project management experience across small to medium highway schemes.
• Strong AutoCAD capability.
• Experience identifying and managing design and construction health and safety risks.
• Previous experience working within a public-sector highways environment.
• Experience preparing highway engineering design solutions to project briefs.
• Strong communication and multidisciplinary team-working skills.
• Valid driving licence.
• Able to work autonomously and make an immediate impact with minimal training or support.

Desirable Experience

• Creating and delivering Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
• KeyLINES, KeySIGN and KeyAccidents.
• ParkMap, including entering and managing highway schemes.
