This role offers an excellent opportunity to experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering client centred, evidence based care in a general rehab ward.6 month Fixed Term Maternity Leave post as a Specialist Occupational Therapist

To work as an active member of the Potters Bar inpatient team which specialises in the treatment and management of patients with multiple conditions. To support the OT Lead in the development of the service to ensure integrated working with partnership organisations.

To provide highly specialised assessment and treatment for patients with a variety of conditions, and to provide expert advice, guidance and information to health and social care professionals, carers and relatives and other non professionals.

To provide a specialised resource for other Occupational Therapy staff and health care professionals across Hertfordshire.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide clinical supervision and competency attainment for Band 6 OT and rehab assistants ensuring that they have an up to date Professional Development plan annually, through the Continuing Professional Development structure.

To be responsible for Occupational Therapy student clinical placements, and provide training, supervision and teaching as required.

To participate in the recruitment and selection process in conjunction with other senior staff.

Education /Qualification
Essential criteria
  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Current HCPC registration
  • Evidence of CPD relevant to the treatment of adults with physical disabilities
  • Up to date CPD portfolio
Desirable criteria
  • Membership of BAOT
  • Member of COT specialist section(s) of RCOT
  • Training in appraisal/supervision
  • Post graduate qualification in specialist area at a masters or equivalent level in specialist field
Experience
Essential criteria
  • Appropriate clinical experience post registration (including experience of working in rehabilitation at Senior level)
  • Experience as an OT in at least two of the following areas: People with conditions affecting physical function
  • Being involved with assessment and implementation of minor and major adaptations to a persons home on the grounds of disability
  • General rehabilitation and falls management
  • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of supervising staff and / or students
  • NHS experience
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of research and clinical audit
  • Experience of working with social services
  • Experience in setting up and running activity based group programme
Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
  • Advanced skills in the assessment and treatment of people with complex multi-pathologies
  • Ability to apply core Occupational Therapy skills across a range of clinical conditions within a client centred, goal setting approach
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritise and demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning
  • Advanced communication and report writing skills, in both verbal and written format
  • Skills in supervision and appraisal of assistants, junior therapists & students
  • Presentation skills appropriate for teaching of junior staff, students & peers within an in-service training setting
  • Computer literacy - Working knowledge of MS Office applications Personal and professional responsibility
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of complex medical conditions and applicable rehabilitation
