Post Title: Highly Specialist Nurse - 8 sessions Paediatric Liaison Team

Grade: 8A

Hours: 30 hours (0.80WTE)

Responsible to: Clinical Lead - Paediatric Liaison Team and CAMHS Nurse Lead

Accountable to: General Manager City and Hackney CAMHS

Location: City & Hackney CAMHS and Homerton University Hospital

Main duties of the job

Job Purpose

The Paediatric Liaison Team (PLT) provides mental health assessment and treatment for children and families affected by physical illness, including medically unexplained physical symptoms (MUPS), at our Specialist CAMHS service at Homerton Row and the Paediatric Ward at Homerton University Hospital. This post will join the Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and part-time band 7 paediatric liaison nurse in providing the paediatric liaison service and will play a role in the interface between CAMHS and paediatric departments at Homerton Hospital.

The post holder will deliver a highly specialist mental health nursing service for the PLT, managing a caseload and offering evidence-based episodes of care. They will provide clinical supervision and line management to other CAMHS nurses, including those in the crisis service, and will lead on nursing issues as directed by the Nurse Lead for CAMHS.

The post involves contributing to a positive multidisciplinary team environment, requiring professional autonomy and self-management, with accountability through appraisal and audit.

Job responsibilities
  1. Coordinate and manage weekly CAMHS Paediatric Liaison Assessments, including triaging referrals, managing bookings & staffing, and completing assessments, liaison, and follow-up.
  2. Develop effective working relationships to provide consultation to hospital staff for creating evidence-based care plans for young people following assessment.
  3. Assess and formulate care at community, systemic, and individual levels, utilizing theoretical knowledge and analyzing complex clinical information.
  4. Collaborate with hospital, community, and partner organizations, including CCG, primary care, schools, social services, hospitals, and voluntary sectors.
  5. Work with staff, children, young people, and families to ensure high-standard care experiences.

Provide comprehensive, highly specialist CAMHS assessments, including risk assessments for children and families with varying mental health issues, and deliver direct therapeutic interventions using modalities like CBT, systemic therapy, and motivational interviewing.
