Are you an established band 7 therapist or a band 6 therapist looking for their next step and an opportunity to develop your skills working with a small caseload of children and adults with a learning disability?

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Speech and Language Therapist to join our Learning Disability Intensive Support Service (LDISS). We are a nationally recognised service, providing support in the community for people with a Learning Disability that cannot be supported in mainstream services, aiming to keep people at home and avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.

The post holder will be an invaluable member of LDISS, working with service users throughout Gloucestershire and in our small inpatient service at Stroud. The role involves:

• Providing a highly specialist speech and language therapy service to adults and children with learning disabilities referred to LDISS.
• Providing a highly specialist speech and language therapy service to our inpatient service at Berkeley House, Stroud.
• Working as a key member of a multidisciplinary team.
• Providing eating and drinking assessments and interventions (desirable but not essential).

Clinical responsibilities include:

• Assessing, developing, and implementing highly specialist SLT treatment plans involving service users in their care planning.
• Using evidence-based practices, adapting to individual circumstances, and evaluating outcomes.
• Providing expert advice on communication and feeding/swallowing difficulties.
• Prioritising workload and exercising autonomous professional responsibility.
• Contributing to observations and offering professional opinions on communication and behaviour challenges.
• Monitoring quality of life improvements using appropriate outcome measures.
• Focusing on person-centered goal setting and treatment formulation.
• Implementing alternative communication strategies.
• Providing SLT training to staff and external agencies.
• Promoting a Positive Behaviour Support ethos and sharing best practices.

Other responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, liaising with agencies, participating in multi-agency meetings, and handling complex information sensitively.

Professional accountability involves working within policies and codes of conduct, attending meetings, developing care plans, and acting as a mentor for students. The role requires travel throughout Gloucestershire using your own vehicle, and a commitment to ongoing professional development and service improvement.
