Job summary

Teaching Personnel are recruiting for a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) in Northampton. This is a full-time, term-time only post within a welcoming primary school, ideal for an experienced HLTA or an ambitious TA seeking progression.

The HLTA will support teaching and learning across the school, lead small group interventions, and deliver pre-planned lessons when the class teacher is absent. A proactive, flexible approach and safeguarding commitment are essential.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of engaging lessons across the primary age range.
  • Lead small group interventions and provide targeted pupil support.
  • Deliver planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Support pupils with diverse learning needs, including SEND where required.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff, SENCOs, and senior leaders.
  • Monitor pupil progress and wellbeing and adhere to safeguarding policies.

Salary: Pay to scale (depending on experience and qualifications)

We are recruiting on behalf of a welcoming primary school located on Northampton for a dedicated and enthusiastic Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join their team as soon as possible. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced HLTA or a confident Teaching Assistant looking to take the next step in their career, supporting pupils to achieve their full potential in a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Your role will involve supporting teaching and learning across the school, leading small group interventions, and delivering pre-planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher. Working closely with teachers, SEN staff, and senior leaders, you will play a key role in helping pupils make excellent academic and personal progress.

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of engaging and high-quality lessons across the primary age range
  • Leading small group interventions and providing targeted support to pupils
  • Delivering planned lessons in the absence of the class teacher
  • Supporting pupils with a range of learning needs, including SEND where required
  • Creating a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment
  • Managing classroom behaviour effectively in line with school policies
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, SENCOs, and senior leaders
  • Monitoring and supporting pupils' progress and wellbeing
  • Following all safeguarding and school policies and procedures

We are looking for candidates who:

  • Hold an HLTA qualification or have equivalent school-based experience
  • Have experience working within a primary school setting
  • Are confident leading whole-class learning and small group interventions
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and behaviour management skills
  • Have a proactive, flexible, and positive approach to supporting children's learning
  • Are committed to raising pupil attainment and promoting positive outcomes
  • Are passionate about safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Hold an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or are willing to obtain one
