Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for a full-time position at a welcoming primary school in Smethwick, Sandwell. The HLTA will support class teachers, lead learning when required, and deliver targeted interventions across the school.

Ideal candidates hold a recognised HLTA qualification and have experience in primary settings, with SEND/EAL experience beneficial. Strong communication and teamwork are essential for collaboration with teachers and support

Location: Smethwick, Sandwell
Salary: £95 - £120 per day
Start Date: October 2026
Contract Type: Supply - Long-Term
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday

Introduction to the Role

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a welcoming and highly inclusive primary school in Smethwick, Sandwell that is looking to appoint a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) on a full-time basis.

The school serves a diverse community and is committed to ensuring every child receives the support and encouragement they need to succeed. They are looking for a proactive HLTA who can work effectively across the school, support class teachers and confidently lead learning when required.

The ideal candidate will hold a recognised HLTA qualification/status and have previous experience working within a primary school environment. Candidates with strong experience working at HLTA level will also be considered.

Due to the inclusive nature of the school, previous experience supporting pupils with SEND, EAL or additional learning needs would be particularly beneficial. The ability to speak an additional language alongside English would also be advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

As the HLTA, your responsibilities may include:

• Supporting teachers with the delivery of engaging lessons and learning activities.

• Building positive and professional relationships with pupils.
• Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and other members of the school team.
