Job summary

Derby College Group is seeking a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support English lessons for post-16 learners at our Broomfield Hall campus. You will assist delivery, run small groups and help students improve reading, writing and communication while collaborating with staff.

Ideal candidates have Level 3 qualification (HLTA status preferred) and experience with GCSE/Functional Skills English.

Derby College Group is seeking a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to provide dedicated support for English classes, including GCSE resits and Functional Skills, at our Broomfield Hall campus.

The Opportunity

We’re looking for a dedicated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support the delivery of high-quality English lessons for post-16 learners, including GCSE resits and Functional Skills. Working closely with teaching staff, you’ll provide in-class support, deliver small group activities, and help students build confidence in reading, writing, and communication. Your role will be key in ensuring learners stay engaged and achieve their English qualifications.

About You

You’ll have a solid understanding of how to support learning and personal development, with experience working with post-16 students and knowledge of GCSE and Functional Skills English. A team player with strategies to engage learners who may be disengaged, you’ll bring excellent communication skills and a proactive approach. A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) is essential, and ideally, you’ll hold HLTA status.
