Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants and Senior Teaching Assistants for day-to-day supply and long-term contracts across Bath and surrounding regions from September 2026. The role involves leading learning activities, covering lessons, and supporting pupil progress in collaboration with teachers and SEND teams.

Ideal candidates will hold an HLTA qualification or have substantial experience at senior TA level, with excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications

• Experience leading whole-class, small-group and 1:1 activities.
• Strong behaviour management and ability to cover classes short-term.
• Good safeguarding, SEND understanding and inclusive practice.

Responsibilities

• Lead learning activities and cover lessons when required.

• Run small-group interventions and support assessment with teachers.
• Collaborate with SEND teams to remove barriers to learning.

TeacherActive is currently recruiting experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants / HLTAs and Senior Teaching Assistants for day-to-day supply and long-term contract opportunities across Bristol, Swindon, Somerset and Wiltshire from September 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role in pupil support. You may deliver pre-planned learning activities, provide short-term class cover, lead small-group interventions, support assessment and work closely with teachers and SEND teams to remove barriers to learning. You will model high expectations, promote positive behaviour and help pupils develop confidence and independence.

Our consultants combine real classroom experience with in-depth recruitment expertise, meaning you'll receive practical support and honest guidance throughout your journey.

Opportunities will be available from September 2026 and may range from individual day-to-day bookings to long-term contracts providing greater continuity within one school.

The successful Higher Level Teaching Assistant / HLTA / Senior TA will have:

• A recognised HLTA qualification or substantial experience operating at a higher or senior Teaching Assistant level
• Experience leading whole-class, small-group and one-to-one learning activities
• Strong behaviour management and the confidence to provide short-term class cover when required
• A good understanding of safeguarding, SEND and inclusive classroom practice
• Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills
