Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistants / HLTA and Senior Teaching Assistants for day-to-day supply and long-term placements across Swindon and Wiltshire from September 2026. You may lead whole-class and small-group activities, provide short-term class cover and support pupils to achieve strong academic and personal progress.

The role offers various placements, with a focus on flexibility, CPD opportunities, and a dedicated consultant support team available 24/7.

Qualifications

• Recognised HLTA qualification or substantial experience operating at a higher or senior Teaching Assistant level.
• Experience leading whole-class, small-group and one-to-one learning activities.
• Strong behaviour management and the confidence to provide short-term class cover when required.
• A good understanding of safeguarding, SEND and inclusive classroom practice.
• Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills.
• CPD courses and certificates as part of the My-Progression brand.

This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading role in pupil support. You may deliver pre-planned learning activities, provide short-term class cover, lead small-group interventions, support assessment and work closely with teachers and SEND teams to remove barriers to learning. You will model high expectations, promote positive behaviour and help pupils develop confidence and independence.

Our consultants combine real classroom experience with in-depth recruitment expertise, meaning you'll receive practical support and honest guidance throughout your journey.

Opportunities will be available from September 2026 and may range from individual day-to-day bookings to long-term contracts providing greater continuity within one school.

The successful Higher Level Teaching Assistant / HLTA / Senior TA will have:
