Job summary

Windwhistle Primary School in Weston-super-Mare is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to support high-quality teaching and help children reach their potential. The role covers individuals, groups and whole-class delivery, with duties during teacher absence and collaboration with staff to sustain learning.

The ideal candidate has at least four years in a school setting, Level 3 TA qualification (or equivalent), and strong safeguarding knowledge.

Qualifications

• Minimum four years' experience working within a school environment.
• Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent in education or child development.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and child protection practices.
• Ability to lead learning activities and support whole-class teaching.
• Experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs.
• Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
• Proactive, adaptable and able to use initiative effectively.

Responsibilities

• Deliver learning activities to individuals, small groups and whole classes under guidance of teaching staff.
• Supervise classes during teacher absence and support continuity of learning.
• Work with teachers to plan, adapt and deliver learning interventions.
• Support pupils with a range of learning needs, including SEND.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teachers and contributing to assessment processes.
• Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, independence and inclusion.
• Collaborate with school staff, parents and external agencies to achieve the best outcomes for pupils.
• Contribute to the wider life of the school and support our positive school culture.
