Job summary

Biffa Waste Services is seeking a Workshop Manager at Hersden Depot to lead the workshop team and oversee maintenance of a diverse fleet, from vans to 44t artic units and trailers. You will plan inspections, ensure DVSA compliance and drive high safety standards.

With 5+ years in workshop management and a valid HGV licence, you will coordinate diagnostics, repairs and documentation, partnering with depot teams to maintain service levels and performance.

Qualifications

• Level 3 HGV NVQ or equivalent required.
• Genuine 5 years workshop experience with 3 years in a supervisory/managerial role.
• HGV licence essential; TMCPC qualification preferred.
• Proven ability to maintain vehicles and waste handling equipment to DVSA standards.
• Strong knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems; fault finding and diagnostics.
• Experience managing maintenance records, compliance docs and workshop safety.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the day-to-day workshop operations to maximise fleet availability.
• Plan and schedule vehicle inspections, servicing and repairs per DVSA/Operator Licence requirements.
• Uphold high standards of health, safety, housekeeping and workshop compliance.
• Support and manage workshop staff, including performance and attendance.
• Ensure accurate completion and control of all service, maintenance and repair records.
• Oversee fault diagnosis across hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.
• Build strong relationships with depot teams to maintain service performance.
• Drive workshop performance, productivity and downtime control across the fleet.
