Job summary

Pertemps is recruiting on behalf of Plymouth City Council for an HGV Driver to support commercial waste collections and bulky waste services in Plymouth. This temporary position runs for 8 weeks with 37 hours per week, 7.5T to 26T vehicle operation, and a starting pay of £15.56 per hour with overtime at £19.45.

The role involves loading bulky items as required and adhering to Driver CPC and WTD standards while delivering reliable customer service in a community-focused environment.

Qualifications

• A valid HGV/LGV driving licence relevant to the vehicle category operated.
• A current Driver CPC qualification & valid Digital Tachograph Card.
• No more than 6 penalty points on licence.
• Understanding of driving regulations and working time rules.
• Commitment to health and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate waste collection vehicles (7.5T and 26T).
• Complete commercial and bulky waste collections in Plymouth.
• Load, transport and dispose of waste materials per regulations and procedures.
• Carry out daily vehicle inspections and report defects.
• Maintain records and comply with driving regulations.

Location: Chelson Meadow - Commercial Waste, Plymouth, PL9

Pay Rate: £15.56 per hour | £19.45 per hour for overtime and Sundays

Assignment Length: Temporary (8 weeks)

Starting 26.10.2026 and expected to run until 20.12.2026

Hours: 37 hours per week

Shift Pattern

• Monday to Thursday: 06:00am - 14:30pm
• Friday: 06:00am - 11:00am

Pertemps are recruiting on behalf of Plymouth City Council for an HGV Driver to support commercial waste collections and bulky waste services across Plymouth. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a dedicated environmental services team committed to keeping the city clean, safe and sustainable.

The role involves driving a range of vehicles from 7.5T to 26T and requires a physically fit individual who is comfortable assisting with the loading and unloading of bulky waste items when required.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate a range of waste collection vehicles, including 7.5T and 26T vehicles.
• Complete commercial waste and bulky waste collections throughout Plymouth.
• Load, transport and dispose of waste materials in line with environmental legislation and company procedures.
• Carry out daily vehicle inspections and promptly report any defects.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with driving regulations.
• Adhere to Driver CPC requirements, Working Time Directive regulations and Operator Licence standards.
• Deliver excellent customer service when interacting with businesses and members of the public.
• Support Plymouth City Council's environmental and sustainability objectives.
