Job summary

Auto Skills UK in Gateshead is seeking a skilled HGV Technician to join our busy depot. You will perform inspections, servicing and repairs on a fleet of vehicles, trailers and equipment to ensure roadworthiness and availability for deliveries.

The role is based at our Gateshead VMU, offering a full-time permanent position with a 44-hour week, 06:00–14:00 and 11:00–19:00 shifts, plus rotating Saturday mornings. Competitive salary with overtime and benefits.

Responsibilities

• Inspecting, servicing and repairing vehicles, trailers and ancillary equipment
• Completing work in line with company procedures and DVSA/VOSA standards
• Supporting vehicle availability in line with operational and delivery requirements
• Working safely and in line with environmental, health and safety procedures
• Highlighting safety or compliance concerns to the VMU Co-ordinator or FLM
• Using tools, equipment and resources effectively
• Supporting the use of external contractors where required
• Contributing to shift KPIs through timely and effective maintenance activity
• Carrying out other VMU-related duties as required
