Job summary

Volvo Trucks in Reading is seeking skilled HGV Technicians for our on-site training school. You will gain expert training and develop a long-term career with one of the world’s leading truck brands.

The role covers electrical and diagnostic work, following manufacturer procedures, with overtime and a strong benefits package. NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair and a UK driving licence are preferred; HGV licence is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
  • Previous experience as an HGV Technician.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive attitude with focus on customer service and safety.
  • Full UK driving licence (HGV licence preferred but not essential).

Responsibilities

  • Carry out repairs to manufacturer procedures safely and responsibly.
  • Follow Volvo standards and use Volvo tools where appropriate.
  • Assist in fault diagnosis processes and warranty procedures.
  • Coordinate with Parts Team to ensure correct replacement parts are used.
  • Road test vehicles when licensed and assist with roadside breakdowns if required.
  • Ensure all job cards and service sheets are completed accurately.

Who Are You
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
  • Previous experience working as an HGV Technician (Volvo experience is a plus but not essential)
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills
  • A proactive attitude with a focus on customer service and safety
  • A full UK driving licence (HGV licence preferred but not essential)
What Will You Be Doing
  • Ensure repairs are carried out according to manufacturer’s procedures, safely and responsibly
  • Ensure repairs are carried out in accordance with Volvo Standard Times using Volvo Special Tools where appropriate
  • Assist in the fault diagnosis process
  • Comply with warranty procedures during repairs and warranty material on completion of each repair
  • Work with the Parts Team to ensure the correct replacement parts are fitted
  • Road test vehicles when required (if you hold an HGV licence)
  • Assist with roadside breakdowns
  • Ensure company time recording procedures are complied with, and that job cards are completed accurately
  • Ensure service sheets are completed as per Volvo instructions
  • Ensure all vehicle defects are reported to workshop controllers
  • Keep all workshop facilities, equipment and tools clean, tidy and well maintained
  • Wear personal protective equipment when appropriate
  • Support the development of young trainees and apprentices
