Job summary

Ford and Slater, a leading UK DAF Truck dealer group with locations from Norwich to Birtley, seeks an HGV Technician for night shifts at the Birtley dealership. You’ll service trucks, carry out safety inspections, and diagnose faults in line with manufacturer procedures.

The role offers hourly pay (£20–£22), overtime, extensive DAF training, licence training post-qualifying, generous holidays, pension, and benefits. Full UK driving licence and own tools required.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Technician/Mechanic in HGV/commercial vehicle sectors.
• Training to become HGV Technician for transfer from LCV/car roles.
• Apprenticeship or formal training to Level 3 in CV maintenance.
• Maintain/repair vehicles per manufacturer procedures.
• Diagnose faults accurately and perform safety inspections.

Responsibilities

• Service and maintain trucks and vehicles.
• Carry out safety inspections and prepare for MOTs.
• Carry out fault diagnostics and repairs.
• Test drive when permitted by licence restrictions.

We currently have a vacancies for anHGV Technicianworking on nightshift, at our fantastic Birtley Dealership.

Who are we looking for as an HGV Technician:

Ideally, you will have the following skills:

• Previous experience working as a Technician / Mechanic within the HGV, Commercial Vehicle, LGV, PSV, Heavy Plant, Car or an associated sector.
• If you are a Light Commercial or Car Mechanic who would like to transfer your skills then we can offer you training to become an HGV Technician.
• Ideally have served a recognised apprenticeship or training programme. Qualified to Level 3 (C&G, NVQ or equivalent) in Commercial Vehicle Maintenance and repair.
• Excellent technical knowledge ensuring maintenance and repairs are carried out to manufacturer’s procedures.
• Sound knowledge to accurately diagnosis faults.
• Ability to carry out safety inspections and prepare vehicles for MOT's.
• Participate in breakdowns as required.
• The skills to follow company processes for completing all paperwork including accurate completion of job cards and service records.
• General level of computer literacy is advantageous.
• Own tool kit.
• Full UK driving licence.

Nightshift working pattern: Tuesday to Friday, 19:00 – 07:00

The HGV Technician role / responsibilities include(but not limited to):

Servicing and maintaining a wide variety of Trucks and Vehicles. Carry out safety inspections and prepare vehicles for MOT's. Fault Diagnostics. Ensure repairs are carried out according to manufacturer’s procedures and in a safe and responsible manner. Road test vehicle when required, subject to licence restrictions.
