Job summary

First Military Recruitment Ltd in Carlisle is seeking a skilled HGV Technician to join our client’s workshop. The role involves carrying out major and minor repairs on heavy goods vehicles and trailers, with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.

You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose issues with the repair teams, and maintain accurate service records. A Level 3 qualification in HGV repair and a valid UK driving licence are required.

Qualifications

• Level 3 in HGV Vehicle Repair and maintenance (NVQ/City & Guilds/IMI).
• Ability to identify worn or faulty components per DVSA standards.
• UK driving licence for relevant vehicle classes.

Responsibilities

• Perform major and minor repairs on heavy goods vehicles, trailers, and related equipment.
• Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance (tyres, oil changes).
• Maintain workshop inventory and cleanliness, preventing oil spills and dust.
• Assist repair teams in diagnosing and planning repairs.
• Keep records of repairs and vehicle handling.
• Provide repair services to clients on the road during emergencies.
• Complete documentation and manage warranty claims or escalation.

Overview

First Military Recruitment are currently seeking a HGV Technician on behalf of one of our clients.

Duties and Responsibilities for the HGV Technician

• Performing major and minor repairs to heavy goods vehicles, trailers and other vehicles.
• Performing regular inspection and general preventive maintenance services such as tyre rotation and oil changes.
• Maintaining inventory in the workshop and cleanliness from oil spills and dust
• Working with repair teams to help diagnose and plan repairs for the vehicles.
• Maintaining records of vehicles that have been repaired or handled.
• Providing repair services to clients on the road in case of emergencies.
• Completing relevant documentation and paperwork as required and providing warranty claims or escalating them to higher management.

Skills and Qualifications for the HGV Technician

• You will need to be level 3 (NVQ or City and Guilds or IMI Qualification) in HGV Vehicle Repair and maintenance.
• You will need the ability to identify worn and faulty components in accordance with the DVSA Standards
• UK driving license for the relevant vehicle classes
