Job summary

National Vehicle Distribution in Birtley, Tyne & Wear, seeks a reliable HGV Mechanic for a full-time role on a three-day shift (06:00–18:30). You’ll work to maintain and prepare vehicles, diagnose faults, and support apprenticeship training in a busy workshop.

Applicants should hold NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, with HGV mechanical experience and strong communication skills. Driving licence class C+E preferred but not essential; overtime is available and training included.

Qualifications

• Must hold a formal qualification NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Heavy plant experience will also be considered.
• HGV mechanical experience is a must
• A Class one(C+E) licence would be preferable but not essential.
• Excellent communication and team working skills.
• Ability to use tools and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Determined and resilient, with the drive to complete tasks.
• Ideally have experience working on Mercedes, Renault & Scania.
• Ideally have experience working with hydraulic systems.
• Full driving license.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general mechanical planned and corrective maintenance.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT.
• Carry out diagnostic fault identification and rectification repair.
• Assist with apprenticeship training.

This role is working on a three-day shift from 06:00 to 18:30 and full-time position based in the Birtley workshop. (for Example, the work pattern will be Monday to Wednesday, off 7 days, work from Thursday to Saturday, off Sunday and then repeat.)

Pay and Benefits

• £40,560 - £55,770 per year plus overtime.
