Job summary

National Vehicle Distribution in the UK is seeking a qualified HGV Mechanic to join our Birtley workshop. The role involves carrying out planned and corrective maintenance, fault diagnosis, and preparing vehicles for MOT, with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

You will access full training including IRTEC-related programs and potential upskilling in welding and HGV electrical systems, supported by a competitive benefits package and overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

• Must hold NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• HGV mechanical experience is essential.
• Experience with Mercedes, Renault and Scania preferred.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong communication and teamworking skills.
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general mechanical planned and corrective maintenance.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT.
• Carry out diagnostic fault identification and rectification repair.
• Assist with apprenticeship training.

NVD UK Ltd has excellent career opportunities for HGV Mechanics at Birtley, Tyne & Wear. We require someone who is reliable, flexible, and prepared to work hard and able to communicate on a good level with a positive attitude to Health & Safety.

This role is working on a three-day shift from 06:00 to 18:30 and full-time position based in the Birtley workshop. (for Example, the work pattern will be Monday to Wednesday, off 7 days, work from Thursday to Saturday, off Sunday and then repeat.

Pay and Benefits

• £40,560 - £55,770 per year plus overtime.

• Full training provided in IRTEC, BPW, Knorr-Bremse, Rolfo, Transporter engineering, LOHR. etc

Requirements

• Must hold a formal qualification NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.

• Heavy plant experience will also be considered.

• HGV mechanical experience is a must

• A Class one(C+E) licence would be preferable but not essential.

• Excellent communication and team working skills.

• Ability to use tools and diagnostic equipment safely and effectively.

• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

• Determined and resilient, with the drive to complete tasks.

• Ideally have experience working on Mercedes, Renault & Scania.

• Ideally have experience working with hydraulic systems.

• Full driving license.
