Job summary

1111 Recruitment Ltd is seeking a skilled Workshop Technician to join our maintenance team in Thornbury, near Bristol. You'll be responsible for inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of heavy goods vehicles to keep them safe and roadworthy.

The role requires a hands-on problem solver with strong diagnostic skills, DVSA compliance knowledge, and the ability to work well with drivers and workshop staff. Hours are 08:00–17:00, with overtime as needed.

WORKSHOP TECHNICIAN

We are seeking a skilled and motivated HGV Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Technician to join our growing maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the inspection, servicing, maintenance, and repair of a fleet of heavy goods vehicles, ensuring they remain safe, roadworthy, and compliant with all relevant regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on HGVs and trailers.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults.
• Perform MOT preparation and ensure vehicles meet legal compliance standards.
• Complete vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance schedules.
• Respond to vehicle breakdowns and emergency repairs when required.
• Maintain accurate service and repair records.
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.
• Work collaboratively with drivers, transport managers, and other workshop staff.

Requirements

• Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic, HGV Technician, or Heavy Vehicle Technician.
• Relevant qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (Level 2/3 NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent).
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• Knowledge of DVSA standards and vehicle compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable but not essential).
• Good communication and organisational skills
