Job summary

Talent Finder are recruiting an HGV Technician for our Reading site on a full-time basis. You will carry out repairs to manufacturers' standards, diagnose faults, and support roadside breakdowns as part of a skilled service team.

The role offers structured training, a dedicated training school at Reading, and clear progression paths, with rotating shifts 6:00 am–2:30 pm and 2:30 pm–11:00 pm, plus overtime. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
• Fully qualified HGV Technician with relevant experience.
• Strong mechanical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Ensure repairs are carried out according to manufacturer's procedures, safely and responsibly.
• Assist fault diagnosis and support roadside breakdowns as required.
• Work with Parts Team to ensure correct replacement parts are fitted.
• Complete service sheets and job cards accurately; report defects to workshop.
• Wear PPE and support trainee development; drive safety and customer service.

HGV Technician | Reading | Full Time | Up to £23 per hour

Working Pattern & Salary

• Rotating shifts, Monday to Friday
• Shift times: 6:00 am–2:30 pm / 2:30 pm–11:00 pm
• Salary up to £23 per hour, depending on skills and experience
• Overtime paid at time and a half, Monday to Saturday

The Role

As an HGV Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring repairs are carried out safely and responsibly, in accordance with manufacturer procedures and required standards.

You will assist with fault diagnosis, support roadside breakdowns and work with the Parts Team and workshop controllers to ensure vehicles are maintained correctly.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure repairs are carried out according to manufacturer's procedures, safely and responsibly
• Ensure repairs are carried out in accordance with standard times using special tools where appropriate
• Assist in the fault diagnosis process
• Comply with warranty procedures during repairs and warranty material on completion of each repair
• Work with the Parts Team to ensure the correct replacement parts are fitted
• Road test vehicles when required if you hold an HGV licence
• Assist with roadside breakdowns
• Ensure company time recording procedures are complied with, and that job cards are completed accurately
• Ensure service sheets are completed as per instructions
• Ensure all vehicle defects are reported to workshop controllers
• Keep all workshop facilities, equipment and tools clean, tidy and well maintained
• Wear personal protective equipment when appropriate
• Support the development of young trainees and apprentices

Requirements

Essential

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent City & Guilds qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
• Fully qualified HGV Technician
• Relevant HGV technician experience
• Strong mechanical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• A proactive attitude with a focus on customer service and safety
• A full UK driving licence
• Flexibility to work the full rotating shift pattern

Desirable

• Previous experience working for an HGV manufacturer or dealer
• Experience with Scania, Volvo Trucks, DAF, Renault Trucks or other major HGV manufacturers/dealers
• HGV driving licence
