Job summary

Talent Finder is seeking a skilled HGV Technician in Croydon for a full-time role. You will repair vehicles safely, diagnose faults, and support roadside breakdowns while collaborating with the Parts Team and workshop controllers to maintain fleet quality.

The position requires NVQ Level 3 / City & Guilds in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair, full UK driving licence, and experience with HGVs. Rotating shifts and overtime on weekends are available.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent City & Guilds qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
• Fully qualified HGV Technician
• Relevant HGV technician experience
• Strong mechanical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• Proactive attitude with a focus on customer service and safety
• A full UK driving licence
• Flexibility to work the full rotating shift pattern

Responsibilities

• Ensure repairs are carried out according to manufacturer's procedures, safely and responsibly
• Ensure repairs are carried out in accordance with standard times using special tools where appropriate
• Assist in the fault diagnosis process
• Comply with warranty procedures during repairs and warranty material on completion of each repair
• Work with the Parts Team to ensure the correct replacement parts are fitted
• Road test vehicles when required if you hold an HGV licence
• Assist with roadside breakdowns
• Ensure company time recording procedures are complied with, and that job cards are completed accurately
• Ensure service sheets are completed as per instructions
• Ensure all vehicle defects are reported to workshop controllers
• Keep all workshop facilities, equipment and tools clean, tidy and well maintained
• Wear personal protective equipment when appropriate
• Support the development of young trainees and apprentices

HGV Technician | Croydon | Full Time | Up to £26 per hour

Working Pattern & Salary

• Monday to Friday
• Rotating shifts: 6:00 am–2:30 pm / 2:30 pm–11:00 pm
• 40 hours per week paid
• Salary up to £26 per hour, depending on skills and experience
• Overtime available Saturday and Sunday
• Double time on Sunday

The Role

As an HGV Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring repairs are carried out safely and responsibly, in accordance with manufacturer procedures and required standards.

You will assist with fault diagnosis, support roadside breakdowns and work with the Parts Team and workshop controllers to ensure vehicles are maintained correctly.

Requirements

Essential

• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent City & Guilds qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
• Fully qualified HGV Technician
• Relevant HGV technician experience
• Strong mechanical, diagnostic and problem‑solving skills
• A proactive attitude with a focus on customer service and safety
• A full UK driving licence
• Flexibility to work the full rotating shift pattern

Desirable

• Previous experience working for an HGV manufacturer or dealer
• Experience with Scania, Volvo Trucks, DAF, Renault Trucks or other major HGV manufacturers/dealers
• HGV driving licence
