Job summary

Contek Recruitment Solutions Ltd is recruiting an HGV Technician for our Bromley depot to maintain a fleet of heavy vehicles, municipal refuse collection vehicles, and plant equipment. You will perform inspections, servicing, diagnostics and repairs to DVSA standards.

Shifts run from 06:30–15:30 or 09:00–18:00, with overtime opportunities and a licence uplift so licensed drivers earn an extra {50p}. The role requires NVQ 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and repair and a valid UK driving licence.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent).
• Proven experience with HGVs, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Valid UK driving licence (Class 1/C+E or Class 2/C preferred).

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine safety inspections, servicing and repairs to DVSA standards.
• Diagnose faults in chassis, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems.
• Prepare vehicles for annual DVSA MOT tests and ensure fleet compliance.
• Rectify defects promptly to minimise downtime.
• Record work orders and documentation accurately.

Job description

Contek Recruitment are collaborating with our client to recruit a HGV Technician for their Bromley depot to help maintain the specialist vehicle fleet that keeps the local community clean and running smoothly. You will perform essential inspection, maintenance, diagnostic, and repair work across our heavy commercial vehicles, municipal refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), and plant equipment.

£24.12 per hour with an aditional 50p if you hold a HGV licence

Shifts 06:30 to 15:30 and 09:00 to 18:00

Key Responsibilities

• Maintenance & Repair: Carry out routine safety inspections, servicing, and mechanical/electrical repairs in compliance with DVSA standards.
• Diagnostics: Troubleshoot chassis systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical faults on specialist municipal bodies and bin-lifting mechanisms.
• MOT Preparation: Prepare, present, and inspect vehicles for annual DVSA MOT tests to ensure 100% fleet compliance.
• Defect Rectification: Respond to driver defect reports promptly to minimize operational downtime.
• Record Keeping: Complete digital work orders, time sheets, and compliance documentation accurately.

What We Are Looking For

• NVQ Level 3 (or City & Guilds Level 3) in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair (or equivalent time-served experience).
• Proven experience working on commercial HGVs, hydraulics, and vehicle electrics (experience with municipal/refuse vehicles is advantageous).
• Full UK Driving Licence (Class 1 / Category C+E or Class 2 / Category C preferred).
• Strong commitment to workshop health and safety protocols.
