Job summary

NMS Recruit Ltd in Barnsley is seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic to service and repair our diverse fleet, including DAF skip trucks, RO-ROs and tippers.

You will diagnose faults, carry out servicing, prepare vehicles for MOTs and support breakdowns, with a focus on quality workmanship.

The role is permanent, on-site, with Monday–Friday hours (plus Saturday mornings rota), 28 days leave and a workplace pension.

Qualifications

• At least two years' experience as an HGV Mechanic or Technician.
• DAF training or proven experience maintaining and repairing DAF vehicles.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills.
• A practical, reliable approach and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A commitment to safe working practices and high standards of repair.
• NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent qualification.
• HGV Class 1 or Class 2 driving licence and Driver CPC.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out servicing, preventative maintenance and repairs across the fleet.
• Using diagnostic equipment and technical knowledge to identify faults and complete effective repairs.
• Performing vehicle safety inspections in line with operator licence requirements.
• Preparing vehicles for MOT and presenting them for testing.
• Completing running repairs and attending breakdowns when required.
• Carrying out wheel replacements and re-torques.
• Maintaining accurate inspection records, job cards and repair paperwork.
• Working closely with colleagues to prioritise repairs and minimise vehicle downtime.
• Maintaining a safe, organised working environment and supporting other areas of the operation when needed.

Are you an experienced HGV Mechanic with strong DAF knowledge? Join an established waste management operation where your technical skills will play a key role in keeping a varied fleet safe, reliable and ready for work.You'll work across DAF skip trucks, roll-on/roll-off vehicles, grab trucks, tippers, articulated units, walking-floor trailers and company vans. From routine servicing to diagnostics and breakdown repairs, this is a varied, hands-on role for someone who takes pride in quality workmanship.
