Job summary

CD Auto Engineering Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced HGV Technician for an immediate short-term contract based in Bristol. The role involves servicing, maintenance, diagnostics, and preparing vehicles for MOT within a busy commercial fleet.

You will diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, rectify defects, and ensure all work aligns with DVSA standards. Availability for day or night shifts is preferred, with 4-on/4-off patterns possible for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Qualified HGV technician with NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
• Proven experience in servicing, maintenance and diagnostics of heavy vehicles.
• Knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance standards is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs.
• Complete scheduled vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and rectify defects.
• Prepare vehicles for MOT and statutory inspections.
• Complete maintenance documentation accurately and in line with DVSA and company standards.
• Work efficiently to minimise vehicle downtime and maintain high health & safety standards.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Are you a qualified HGV Technician available for an immediate short-term contract in the Bristol area?

We are recruiting an experienced Heavy Vehicle Technician to provide temporary engineering cover within a busy commercial vehicle maintenance operation.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out servicing, maintenance and repairs on HGVs
• Completing scheduled vehicle inspections and preventative maintenance
• Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
• Identifying and rectifying vehicle defects
• Preparing vehicles for MOT and statutory inspections
• Completing maintenance documentation accurately
• Ensuring all work meets DVSA and company standards
• Working efficiently to minimise vehicle downtime
• Maintaining high standards of Health & Safety and workmanship

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds or equivalent Heavy Vehicle qualification
• Proven experience working as an HGV Technician or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic
• Strong servicing, maintenance and diagnostic experienceGood knowledge of DVSA inspection and maintenance standards
• The ability to work independently within a busy workshop environment
• Availability to start at short notice
• Previous main dealer or VMU experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

SHIFT OPTIONS

Preferred shifts are:

• Day Shift: 06:00 – 18:00
• Night Shift: 18:00 – 06:00
• 4 On / 4 Off
