Job description

Are you a highly motivated and experienced hands-on Mechanic / Technician with at least three years' experience, looking for an opportunity where your hard work and expertise are truly valued?

Do you have good, strong knowledge of HGV servicing and maintenance and excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, but you're not being rewarded for your diligent efforts by your present employer?

Do you have a responsible approach to safety and vehicle roadworthiness, and a keen eye for diagnosing faults?

If this sounds like you, and you would like a stable position within a small, friendly family-run business then read on.

Our client is an established transport business providing specialist HGV and lorry-loader transport services across the South East and beyond. They are seeking an Experienced, Hands-on Mechanic to join their small, but energetic in-house workshop team to help maintain the safety, reliability and performance of their fleet team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanic who enjoys practical problem-solving, takes pride in their work and wants to make a genuine contribution to a growing business, where their ideas and experience are truly valued.

Experience with VOLVO and DAF vehicles is beneficial

Salary and Hours:
  • Full Time; 40 hours guaranteed; Monday - Friday (7am or 8am start to be agreed)
  • £24 p/h (overtime regularly available at time and a half)
Benefits Our Client Offers:
  • £24 per hour.
  • Overtime paid at time and a half, with regular opportunities available.
  • A choice of 7:00am or 8:00am start, subject to agreement.
  • A varied role working on their own fleet rather than in a main-dealer environment.
  • A friendly, close-knit workshop team and supportive working atmosphere.
  • The opportunity to have a genuine input into how the workshop operates.
  • A stable position within an established, family-run transport business.
  • A practical working environment where experience, initiative and good workmanship are appreciated.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Carrying out routine servicing and preventative maintenance.
  • Conducting pre-MOT inspections and preparing vehicles for MOT testing.
  • Completing Planned Maintenance Inspections (PMIs) in line with company procedures and compliance requirements.
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out general mechanical repairs.
  • Undertaking electrical repairs, including vehicle lighting, wiring and associated electrical systems.
  • Identifying faults and resolving technical issues using diagnostic equipment and analytical problem-solving tools.
  • Maintaining trailers and drawbar equipment to a high standard.
  • Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
  • Recording completed work accurately and maintaining appropriate maintenance records.
  • Working closely with colleagues to prioritise workshop jobs and minimise vehicle downtime.
  • Supporting vehicle roadworthiness, reliability and fleet availability.

Our client's maintenance operation is subject to independent third-party assessment, so maintaining accurate records, following procedures and working to a consistently high standard are important aspects of the role.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:
  • Proven experience as an HGV Mechanic or HGV Technician.
  • Good working knowledge of HGV servicing, maintenance and repairs.
  • Experience working on Volvo and/or DAF vehicles would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of trailers, drawbars, braking systems and vehicle electrical systems.
  • The ability to diagnose faults, think logically and solve problems independently.
  • A responsible approach to safety, vehicle roadworthiness and quality of workmanship.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
  • A proactive attitude, with pride in maintaining a professional and organised workshop.
  • An HGV driving licence would be an advantage, particularly when moving vehicles around the yard or assisting with workshop requirements.
In Summary

If you have the experience, technical knowledge and management skills to run a busy HGV workshop operation, manage a team and keep a large commercial vehicle fleet moving, our client would like to hear from you.

Their selection process is unique in the marketplace and attracts motivated, productive team members and this means they know you will be successful and have a great career with them.

They look forward to hearing from you. Don't miss this opportunity.
