Job summary

Jones Skips in Wolverhampton is seeking an experienced HGV Mechanic to join our maintenance team. You will inspect, diagnose, service and repair our HGV fleet, including skip lorries and hook-loaders, ensuring roadworthiness and DVSA compliance.

You will work in a busy workshop, record all activities in fleet management systems, assist with safety and environmental obligations, and support others in the team while delivering high standards of workmanship.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as HGV Mechanic in transport or waste management.
• Strong knowledge of HGVs, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
• Familiarity with DVSA inspections and PMI schedules.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine inspections and planned preventative maintenance on the HGV fleet to ensure reliability and DVSA compliance.
• Perform diagnostic testing and fault finding on mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems; conduct brake testing.
• Carry out pre-MOT inspections and present vehicles for MOT testing; record all activities in fleet systems.
• Support workshop operations and maintain cleanliness, organisation and safety in the workshop.
• Adhere to health, safety and environmental policies and report hazards promptly.
