Job summary

Staffordshire County Council, Fleetcare, is seeking a skilled Heavy Vehicle Mechanic to join the workshop team in Staffordshire. You will service, inspect, diagnose and repair a diverse fleet of heavy and light vehicles, supporting essential public services across the county.

You will work on HGVs, vans and specialist assets, with duties including MOT preparation, diagnostics and component repairs. Candidates should have Level 3 NVQ and a current Category C licence, and be prepared for ongoing

Qualifications

• Qualified to Level 3 NVQ in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair or equivalent.
• Full driving licence with Category C entitlement.
• Willingness to work towards Level 3 Electric and Hybrid Vehicle System Repair.
• Strong knowledge of diagnostics, MOT prep, fault finding and repairs.

Responsibilities

• Carry out major repairs, servicing, inspections and preventative maintenance across a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment, including HGVs and municipal assets.
• Prepare vehicles for annual MOT, plating and statutory inspections; present at test facilities and resolve defects.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical systems, incl. tail lifts and air conditioning.
• Support Winter Maintenance Service (Snowflake) and participate in 24-hour breakdown/emergency response.
• Maintain accurate service records and ensure compliance with DVSA standards and Fleetcare quality.
