Job summary

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council is seeking a Workshop Technician (HGV) to inspect, service, maintain and repair a diverse fleet of vehicles, ensuring essential services operate smoothly across the borough.

You will diagnose faults, perform routine maintenance and prepare vehicles for MOT testing, contributing to safety and reliability. A flexible, team-oriented approach and DVSA-compliant work will be required.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 in Motor Vehicle Studies or equivalent.
• Experience in vehicle maintenance environment.
• Knowledge of hydraulics, electrics, braking and transmissions.
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills; ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Commitment to safety and workmanship.
• Flexible and proactive approach to work.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose faults and carry out repairs effectively and efficiently.
• Undertake routine servicing and preventative maintenance.
• Prepare vehicles and equipment for MOT testing.
• Carry out MOT and taxi testing where qualified.
• Ensure work complies with DVSA standards and health and safety requirements.
• Complete maintenance records accurately.
• Provide technical advice and support to service users.
• Participate in an out-of-hours rota and support the on-call team.
