Job summary

Lawsons (Whetstone) Ltd is seeking an experienced HGV Class 2 HIAB Driver to join the AVS Basingstoke team. You will deliver building materials safely to trade and retail customers, planning routes and ensuring on-time deliveries while operating HIAB equipment.

The role requires a full HGV2 licence, Driver CPC, HIAB experience, and a professional, safety-conscious approach. Competitive salary and standard company benefits are offered with early starts and occasional weekend hours.

Qualifications

• Full, valid HGV Class 2 licence with a clean driving record.
• Valid Driver CPC and digital tachograph card.
• Experience driving HGV Class 2 in delivery/logistics environments.
• HIAB qualification or operator training preferred.
• Knowledge of safe loading/unloading and vehicle security.
• Understanding of drivers’ hours and tachograph rules.
• Ability to assess site access and risks before unloading.
• Customer-focused and professional on-site.

Responsibilities

• Operate an HGV Class 2 vehicle with HIAB to deliver materials safely.
• Plan routes considering customer requirements and site access.
• Load, transport and offload building materials using HIAB.
• Perform daily vehicle checks and keep equipment in safe condition.
• Report defects, incidents and delivery issues promptly.
• Ensure secure loading and adherence to safe loading practices.
• Use HIAB crane safely according to guidance and training.
• Deliver to construction sites, trade premises and customers’ sites.
• Maintain professional communication with customers and team.
• Obtain signatures and document discrepancies when needed.
• Comply with drivers’ hours, tachographs and road transport laws.
• Keep vehicle clean and report maintenance needs.
• Follow health and safety procedures and site instructions.
• Support branch operations during busy periods.
