Job summary

Drivers Today in Wolverhampton is seeking an experienced HGV Class 1 / C+E Flatbed Tramper Driver for long-term, nationwide general haulage with regular nights away.

You will operate flatbed loads, secure with ratchet straps, and work Monday–Friday with 2–4 nights out; must have 2 years HGV1, Category C+E, Driver CPC; 25+; £20ph PAYE plus £26 night-out allowance; weekly pay.

Qualifications

• General haulage and flatbed experience preferred.

Drivers Today are recruiting an experienced HGV Class 1 / C+E Flatbed Tramper Driver for long-term work with an established transport and logistics operation based in Wolverhampton.

This is a genuine general haulage and flatbed tramping position, so we're specifically interested in experienced drivers who are comfortable securing loads, using ratchet straps and spending several nights away each week.

If you're looking for regular Monday-to-Friday tramping with good earning potential, this could be an excellent long-term opportunity.

The Work

You'll be operating HGV Class 1 articulated vehicles on nationwide general haulage work, with a particular emphasis on flatbed loads.

Typical duties include:

• HGV Class 1 / Category C+E driving

• Nationwide general haulage

• Flatbed trailer work

• Correct use of ratchet straps

• Securing and checking loads

• Nationwide deliveries and collections

• Approximately 2–4 nights out per week

• Daily vehicle and trailer inspections

• Completing digital walk-around checks

• Using driver apps for job information and paperwork

• Communicating with the transport office

• Accurate tachograph use and compliance with drivers' hours

You’ll need to be comfortable working independently and using your own initiative when you're out on the road.

Flatbed Experience Is Important

This isn't simply RDC-to-RDC curtain-side trunking.

We're looking for drivers who understand general haulage and load security, ideally with previous flatbed experience.

You should be confident using ratchet straps correctly and safely and understand your responsibilities for checking and securing a load.

What You'll Need

For this particular contract, applicants must have:

• Minimum 2 years' HGV Class 1 experience

• Valid UK Category C+E licence

• Valid Driver CPC

• Digital Tachograph Card

• General haulage experience

• Flatbed experience strongly preferred

• Experience using ratchet straps

• Previous tramping experience

• Happy with at least 2–3 nights out per week

• Maximum 6 licence points

• SP30/SP50 endorsements can be considered

• No DD or serious driving convictions

• Good timekeeping and reliability

• Ability to use your own initiative

• Comfortable using smartphone apps

• Own smartphone

• Own safety boots

• Own HGV sat-nav

• Must be aged 25+ for this assignment

Proper Tramping – Regular Long-Term Work

This role is aimed at drivers who genuinely enjoy tramping.

You won't be expected to return to Wolverhampton every evening. You'll be travelling throughout the UK, completing deliveries and collections and spending multiple nights away during the working week.

In return, you'll have the opportunity to settle into regular work with the same transport operation, rather than constantly moving between different agency assignments.
